I’ve been a big fan of Kellogg’s Special K for years. I started eating because it touts itself as a weight loss product, and I kept eating it because it was delicious. Whenever I find it for less than $2.50 a box, I buy four at a time. I haven’t found a variety I don’t like — red berries, cinnamon pecan, chocolate delight, vanilla almond, even the new kid on the block, blueberry.
Then I tried Kashi Go Lean Crunch.
Target was selling two boxes for $5.49, so I went for it. The package came with a coupon for a free half gallon of soy milk, which didn’t hurt either. (For the record, vanilla soy milk is good, but certainly not anything I would ever pay almost $3 for!)
Anywho, a good friend of mine had been raving about Kashi for awhile, so I decided to give it a try. I was nervous, because it had 200 calories per serving, but it balances out with the protein content. Its box also doesn’t allude at all to what it will taste like.
Well, it tastes good. It’s kinda sweet, crunchy, and well, just good. But here is why I am a Kashi convert: It is so filling. I mean, I know that whole grains take a long time to digest, jabber jabber jabber, but I never expected so much satisfaction from so little!
I’ll always love Special K. But from now on, it’ll be a treat or a snack. With the Kashi, I rarely need my morning snack! I just can’t get over it. It’s expensive, but it’s worth it.
Unfortunately I did not photograph my lunch: turkey, pepper jack and spinach on low-cal wheat bread (which is terrible, but the grocery was out of Sandwich Thins), parmesan basil Wheat Thins, a giant tub of strawberries and a Diet Coke.
While I was at the gym I dreamed up my dinner from the random stuff I had lying around:
Whole wheat tortilla, pizza sauce, fat-free mozzarella, tomatoes and pesto sauce. Too good!
I’m headed to a conference tomorrow, but I’ll be back Sunday with some great eats and fabulous friends from the weekend!

Do you have a Trader Joe’s near you? Kashi is $2.99/box there I think.

Am I your Kashi-touting friend?! haha I just stocked up at Target this weekend. $2.88 a box! Much better than the $4+ at my grocery store. I think I’m starting to favor the plain Go Lean with the little twigs because the Crunch is too sweet sometimes. It’s so filling because it’s so chock-full of fiber. Usually, it keeps me satisfied until lunch.
I don’t recommend the oatmeal, though. At least not the maple flavor. Maybe I just haven’t given it enough of a chance yet, but it’s certainly no Simple Harvest!
